Pan Rocks, a renowned group of steelpan players founded by musician Tracy Thornton, are set to perform classic rock-inspired covers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 at Millett Hall at the University of Miami.

Thornton’s band will be joined by electronic violinist Mark Wood and the Mason, Centerville, Greenville and Oakwood high school orchestras.

The band will play hits from hard rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, incorporating their guest performers to enrich the instrumental arrangements. Tickets for the event, which cost $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $10 for youth and students, can be purchased online.

Sikhs hold cultural festival at Uptown Memorial Park

The University of Miami Sikh Student Association is hosting a cultural festival at Uptown Memorial Park from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 8.

The festival celebrates Vaisakhi Mela, one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. It marks the start of the Punjabi New Year and celebrates the year of the founding of the Sikh faith.

There will be an information booth, craft booth, food and entertainment throughout the event.
