Arts Beat: a musician from Westfield State University will perform at the Wagner Festival

“A Little Night Music,” Stephen Sondheim’s delightful adaptation of Bergman’s film “Smiles of a Summer Night” is performed by the Barrington Stage Company until August 28. Julianne Boyd directs and Robert LaFosse choreographs, under the musical direction of Darren R. Cohen. The score, composed entirely of waltzes, includes Sondheim’s most famous aria, “Send in the Clowns”. The cast includes Tony Award-nominated Emily Skinner (“Side Show,” “The Cher Show,” “Prince of Broadway”) as Desiree Armfeldt; Jason Danieley (“Candide,” “Curtains,” “Pretty Woman: The Musical,” “The Full Monty”); as Fredrick Egerman; Tony Award-nominated Mary Beth Peil (“Anastasia,” “Follies”) as Madame Armfeldt, and Sierra Boggess (“School of Rock,” “Love Never Dies”) as Countess Charlotte Malcolm. Wagner Festival in Vermont presents two masterpieces, “Das Rheingold” (August 22 and 26) and “Die Walkure” (August 23-27), both presented by TUNDI Productions at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro. Concerts, dialogues and lectures surround the opera performances. Local musicians, including Westfield State University’s Mary Brown Bonacci, NERO’s Cailin Marcel Manson, and Clifton J.
