June Holiday Musical Performance by MTU Cork School of Music at the Crawford Art Gallery


Visitors to Crawford during the June bank holiday will be in for a treat on Sunday 5th June when Guitar More perform in the gallery’s iconic long room.

A selection of MTU Cork School of Music’s most talented students are lined up for performances amidst the visually striking collectible exhibition Botanica: the art of plants, which runs until September 18. Guitar Plus is a collective of senior classical guitar students and graduates of MTU Cork School of Music. The guitar orchestra includes: Sara Corkery, Victoria Pierce, Robert Keating, John Ahern, Tadhg Cunningham, Eoin McDermott and Brian Sheridan. The performance is directed by Jerry Creedon.

The Guitar Plus Guitar Orchestra is a set of professional level guitars. All members are senior students and graduates of MTU Cork School of Music under the guidance of Jerry Creedon.

Guitar Plus specializes in performing exciting and colorful works composed or arranged for multiple guitars. He is committed to providing a valuable ensemble experience for guitarists from diverse backgrounds, while maintaining musical excellence. Guitar Plus hosts many concerts throughout the community with the goal of promoting an appreciation and broadening the audience for classical guitar music.

The performance will also feature guest soloist Claudia Duffy, 12, a brilliant young classical guitarist, who is studying with Jerry Creedon at MTU Cork School of Music. Claudia’s recent accolades include; winning first place in the MTU CSM Junior Recital Competition earlier this year and winning the Under-16 Junior Classical Guitar Competition at the Feis Ceoil in Dublin after winning the Under-12 Junior Classical Guitar Competition in 2021 .

Guitar Plus are delighted to feature in the Music at Midday series, a must for music lovers here in Cork. We aim to bring a unique program with our performances that showcase classical guitar and our performers do it expertly. We are delighted to be joined by Claudia Duffy, a very committed student who is really making her mark in guitar music. Being able to perform in the beautiful setting of the Crawford Art Gallery is really the icing on the cake.

The Crawford Art Gallery will also be offering tours open to all and free on Sunday 5e of June and bank holiday Monday 6e June at 2 p.m. There is no reservation required for Music at Midday or gallery tours

Expert tour guides invite visitors to delve into the National Collection and the many exhibitions held at the Crawford Art Gallery. The tour experience will focus on Zurich Portrait Prize & Zurich Young Portrait Prize 2021and Saturation: everyday life transformed, offering fascinating insights, information and the stories behind the artworks and the artists who created them. Places on the tours will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no pre-booking necessary.

as well as the exhibition Zurich Portrait Prize & Zurich Young Portrait Prize 2021, the Gallery also presents Botanica: the art of plants, Saturation: everyday life transformed, Port of Cork Collectionfilm screenings of Martin Healy: The Last Man and Canova redesign in its sculpture galleries.
