Mid-Sussex concert honors remarkable musician

General Manager Hannah Carter said: “The concert will be dedicated to our special friend and Reza Ensemble violinist, Andrew Thurgood, who sadly passed away earlier in the year.
“Andrew was a founding member of the Reza Ensemble and was integral to our program of concerts, education and community work. He loved being surrounded by music, whether it was at Ronnie Scott’s house with his two boys or performing on the concert/classroom/pub/mall stage with the Reza Ensemble or composing for the band, he always had a smile. on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. His lasting legacy will be the joy and inspiration he brought to others through his incredible playing, teaching and songwriting.
“Andrew died suddenly after a short illness in June 2022.
“The evening’s program is inspired by the music that Andrew has always wanted to perform, notably Schubert’s Trout Quintet, with pianist Nancy Cooley, as well as the music of Beethoven and Mozart.
“This event is always a highlight in our busy concert schedule. The idyllic candlelit setting of the church, accompanied by a glass of warmed mulled wine and beautiful virtuoso music always make this a special evening to remember. As Dame Judi Dench commented at a recent Reza concert “an absolutely extraordinary concert”. Fabulous. I felt so included’
“Based in Mid Sussex and created more than nine years ago, the Reza Ensemble is basically a sextet (two violins, two violas and two cellos). Individually, members have performed worldwide with world-renowned orchestras, theater groups and ensembles.
“For those who have never attended a Reza Ensemble event before, these concerts are always welcoming and, for many, the perfect tonic for a busy day, with brilliant music, in a beautiful venue. From the beginning, Ensemble Reza set out to create exciting musical environments that supported all areas of our community. Since our inception nearly ten years ago, we have inspired thousands of people and brought together musicians and audiences of different ages and backgrounds, changing lives through music.”
