The Musical Arts Center celebrates 25 years of music education

This fall, the Musical Arts Center (the Center) celebrates 25 years of music education for all ages and abilities with special events, all open to the community.

The Center for Musical Arts is a nonprofit community music school based in Lafayette, Colorado, dedicated to “Music for All, for Life!” The Center opened its doors with 13 students in 1996 and now welcomes more than 500 every week, with 37 music teachers giving more than 12,000 individual and group lessons a year. Since 1996, the organization has served over 17,000 students. In line with its mission, more than 30% of students receive some form of financial aid.

“We started the Musical Arts Center 25 years ago to provide access to music education for all members of our community,” said Kathy Kucsan, co-founder and director of education for the Musical Arts Center. “We are more than a music school; we are an anchor and a gathering place. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating our anniversary, especially those seeking accessible educational opportunities. music, connection and community.”

The Center is leading a fundraising campaign to raise $250,000, nearly 90% funded, to bring music education experiences to an even wider audience. Planned efforts include making the Center’s facilities accessible to more students with disabilities and introducing a small stage on wheels to deliver music lessons directly to underserved populations.

On Saturday, September 18, the Center will host a Jazz Cabaret from 6 to 8 p.m., transforming the school (200 E. Baseline Rd., Lafayette, Colorado, 80026) into an intimate jazz club. Attendees will enjoy music from Steve Christopher Combo, a cash bar, and Shirley Delta Blow as emcee. Tickets are $25.

On Sunday, September 19 from 2-6 p.m., the Center invites the community to a free block party at the school, featuring the debut of the new small mobile stage with a series of musical acts, food trucks , a silent disco and more.
